As long as you are doing somewhat qualified work, I don’t think you run the risk of being completely replaced by an AI-tool anytime soon.

However, I do believe that humans using AI will replace humans not using AI.

Today we’re taking a closer look at the importance of upskilling in an AI-powered world. Learn why you should care about AI and how to determine what AI skills you need. I’m also sharing my best resources for learning more.

Upskilling in an AI-powered world - a practical guide

As you might have noticed, AI has been creeping into our lives bit by bit. Whether we like it or not, AI is changing the game in almost every industry.

The AI wave is here, and those who learn how to surf it will stay dry!

As a freelancer or business owner, you might wonder how the AI wave applies to you? The answer is simple: by gaining AI proficiency, you'll become more competitive, improve your productivity, and future-proof your career. Let me explain:

Stay competitive in the market

As more companies are incorporating AI into their operations, the demand for AI proficiency is increasing significantly. Simply put, those who upskill in AI will have an edge over those who don’t.

Improve efficiency and productivity

AI has the potential to significantly streamline your workflow to improve efficiency and productivity. This allows you to focus on higher-level, creative tasks, and provide higher value services to your clients and customers.

Future proof your business

By upskilling in AI, you will be better prepared for shifts in your industries, and adapt your business accordingly.

What AI skills do you need?

This answer largely depends on what field you are in, so a great place to start is researching the applications of AI in your field and identifying the key skills that might come in handy.

For example, if you’re a freelance writer - there are countless AI-tools out there that can speed up your workflow. AI tools can for instance help you write content faster, brainstorm better headlines and titles as well as suggest edits to improve SEO.

Another tip is to tap into online communities in your area of expertise and join the ongoing AI-discussion (trust me, there will be one), for example in Facebook-groups or Slack channels.

Where to learn more about AI

There are endless resources out there for learning about AI - the key is to identify the appropriate skill level and the perspective that is relevant for you. That said, here are a few beginner-friendly resources I highly recommend.

Online courses about AI

A free course created by MinnaLearn and the University of Helsinki. This is a great course to start if you are a complete beginner and want to learn more about the basic concepts.

Introduction to Generative AI - by Google Cloud.

An introductory-level course aimed at explaining what Generative AI is, how it is used, and how it differs from traditional machine learning methods.

Podcasts about AI

In Machines we trust by MIT Technology Review - this award-winning podcast, hosted by Jennifer Strong, thoughtfully examines the far-reaching impact of artificial intelligence on our daily lives

AI podden - this podcasts, hosted by AI researcher Ather Gattami, sheds light on AI developments and their impact on society

Stay curious and open-minded

One of the most important things when it comes to upskilling, in my opinion, is to stay curious and open-minded about the possibilities and implications of AI. Ask questions, try new tools and keep iterating your workflow. Also, keep an eye on the social, and economic aspects of AI, and how they affect us at a societal level. Seek out platforms like TED to watch and read inspiring and thought-provoking stories and opinions on AI.

The bottom line

Embracing AI is not just a trend—it's an investment in your future. Whether you're a freelancer, a creator, or an online business owner, you are going to be affected by AI sooner or later. Make sure to future-proof your business by staying in the loop, keeping up to date and learning how to use AI to your advantage!

💬 Quote

"Technology is not a silver bullet, it's a silver thread in a larger social fabric. It should be woven thoughtfully, responsibly and sensitively into the fabric of society."

🥳 Just for fun

NFTs might not be all the hype right now - but I’m a firm believer that NFTs and web3 will cause a huge paradigm shift in how we monetize digital assets and build communities - sooner or later.

I took my favorite NFT-meme and gave it a fresh spin - to represent all the amazing women in the NFT space. I shared it publicly last week and I’m happy to report that it’s making a little dent in the digital space!
